Cafe Sensorial, Pavia, Italy, August-September 2018
Hosted by Calypso and the University of Pavia we have developed an interesting new way of working with communities using CoArts. Cafe Sensorial audiences arrive at a restaurant and instead of or alongside a menu of food they also order off a menu of sensory portals.
These portals are constructed by a team of professional artists and community members through an adapted Art of Looking at Ourselves training and enable the community to enter homes that they might not otherwise ever visit. The potential is to build bridges between divided communities.
We have since staged this style of performance in several different context and each time it creates an explosion of ‘communitas’ and a reappreciation of the sensory world and our relationship with it.
