Artists the world over have dual citizenship. As well as what it says on their passports they are also, every one of them, citizens of the Republic of the Imagination. They reside occasionally, some continuously, in this State.
Children too, of course, populate this fair land. Those, that is, who are not plucked violently from its warm embrace. They stay awhile, and are then led to believe that such a nationality serves no purpose and might even be in conflict with their duty to grow up. The old country, tired and worn with responsibility and struggle, calls to them and they slouch dolefully into the sleep of reason.
There are those who persist in their unreasonableness, awake to the possibility of the impossible. They continue to throw themselves recklessly into the abyss of unknowing from which this Republic erupts, and are reborn every day, their works strewn about them.
Tiktika: Playing Beyond Space and Time was a project that ventured into the republic with people of all generations from France, Wales, Romania and Portugal. Children, Parents and Grandparents explored with artists the contours of this lost continent. The expedition brought back the treasures found and exhibited them in a purpose built space – a labyrinth; the portal between the two realities.
During this process Cynefin artists sought inspiration from the expedition for a multi-lingual on-line children’s book. This book is the support material to the workshop Cynefin offers utilizing our methods as an adult learning resource for young parents and grandparents to remind them of the importance of occasionally meeting children in this Republic.
